Covid-19 and We Will All Die

Remember? The terrible winter of 2017-18?

The sheer terror of every moment? The anticipation that you might catch it next? That someone might die? That someone you know might die? Do you remember the gripping terror of every moment in the winter of 2017 to 2018? You don’t? You don’t remember the 2017-2018 winter being horrible? You don’t! Well, the CDC says that 80,000 people died of the flu in the winter of 2017 to 2018. 80,000! (AP interview with Dr. Robert Redfield of the CDC, September 26, 2018, https://apnews.com/818b5360eb7d472480ebde13da5c72b5.) Redfield is current head of the CDC.

Why didn’t you think it was so bad in the winter of 2017-18?

Dr. Robert Redfield, current head of the CDC. By Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – https://www.cdc.gov/about/images/leadership/leaders/cdcdirector-300px.jpg, Public Domain,

The answer is, you didn’t have the media pumping it up! You didn’t see constant reminders of hospital death’s. You didn’t see your favorite news or weather reporters crouching in fear, and broadcasting from home in horror of possibly catching the virus and … dying! Did you?

Notice that almost all of their models, their projections, have been wrong! Originally they said 2.2 million Americans would die. But it isn’t going to happen. They emptied the hospitals so that they could care for the dying Covid-19 patients … and the hospitals stayed empty. Trump sent a hospital ship to NY, and built two new hospitals in Central Park, and they stayed empty. NY said they needed 30,000 ventilators. Trump said he could only send 5,000. The press said that was outrageous. But it ended up NY sent away some ventilators! https://www.theblaze.com/news/new-york-giving-away-ventilators. It is a new media lie everyday. You have already forgotten the old lie, because the new false projection is scaring the wits out of you! Assuming that the originators made honest mistakes, we still should NOT be listening to their models, with this record of failures. The media and the politicians are NOT experts, and the “experts” have been consistently sold us bad models!

Now Some Question These Projections Entirely

Dr. Deborah Birx. Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=88791250

According to a Washington Post article, Dr Birx said, “There is nothing from the CDC that I can trust.” She said that they were exaggerating Covid-19 deaths by as much as 25%. https://ussanews.com/News1/2020/05/12/dr-birx-claims-the-cdc-inflated-covid-19-death-tolls-by-25/.

I have heard before that competent authorities questioned the CDC’s estimates on for instance, flu deaths. These are after all, statistical extrapolations. No one is really in a position to do a real head count. But you says, someone might die! And that is right! So, let’s take some CDC figures at face value.

The CDC says 2,813,503 died in 2017.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm. These are deaths from all causes. This means about 234,458 people died every month. Well this says that someone will die, does die, every year. Nearly three million of them in America, each year. And most who die are elderly with serious underlying conditions! Who would have guessed? They have heart problems, they have diabetes or they are very overweight or have severe breathing problems, and so on. Your author is part of this group. Might your author die from COVID-19? Yes! Should we shut down the world because you author might die? I don’t think so. So what is the root of our problem?

Sin came into this world from the wrongs of our ancestors.

The truth is, we will ALL die. Coronavirus or not.

“12 Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned. … 14 Nevertheless death reigned … even over those whose sins weren’t like Adam’s disobedience, who is a foreshadowing of him who was to come.”
Rom 5:12, 14

Yes we use medicines and treatments to try hinder and delay death, rightfully so, even in Scripture. Your author probably would not be alive today, and might have even died in childhood, without modern medicine. But in the end even that cannot undo death.

Prophecy says only Jesus can do that!

“25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death.”
1Cor 15:25-26

That is a prophecy. And it hasn’t happened yet. And it does matter!

Coronavirus and Scripture, Part II of III

When speaking of major powers at work in the Christian Age, the Bible uses more than one set of symbolism. One set is,

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
in Revelation chapter 6

I do not think Jesus is just speaking here of things at the very end of the age. I think rather He is speaking of powers that are at work all through the Christian Age. You might even say they are the everyday things of history. I am only going to discuss two of these horsemen in this post.

The first horseman is Jesus the Christ Himself

Revealing the Christian gives a more complete disucssion of the Four Horsemen who run through history. It is available through your bookseller.

Jesus is THE dominant power of our age!

“And behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him, and he came forth conquering, and to conquer.”
Rev 6:2 (Compare Rev 19:11-16)

ALL authority has been given to Jesus the Christ, both in heaven and on earth, Mtt 28:18. Jesus reaches out to men to try to get them to change before it is eternally too late. What is the method to this rule?

“26 He made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 that they should seek the Lord, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.”
Acts 17:26-27

Jesus presently rules in the midst of His enemies, Psa 110:1-2. He rules over the kings of the earth NOW, Rev 1:5. These kings are warned,

“10 Now therefore be wise, you kings.
Be instructed, you judges of the earth.
11 Serve Yahweh with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Kiss the son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
For his wrath will soon be kindled.
Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.”
Psa 2:10-12

Everyone will have to submit to Jesus the Christ, before this is over.

The fourth horseman is Death and Hades

“And behold, a pale horse, and he who sat on it, his name was Death. Hades followed with him. Authority over one fourth of the earth, to kill with the sword, with famine, with death, and by the wild animals of the earth was given to him.”
Rev 6:8

Now this is NOT talking about extraordinary times at the end of this age, but we could say normal times, in an abnormal, sinful world. This ‘horseman” has authority to let death rule over “one fourth of the earth” (Rev 6:8 above).

This “horseman” includes the wars of our world (“to kill with the sword”), the famines and desolations we see on TV, the murders, the inexplicable accidents. It includes the Spanish Flu of 1918, and the regular flu which kills about 60,000 each year in the United States. In truth the World is in “bondage to decay,” Rom 8:21, and it affects us all, everyday.

Sin and death go together. Things are not right in our universe, things are not right with us. Compare Psalm 94 in our previous post.

The only real escape is a permanent one

Giving our lives to Jesus Christ so we might be counted worthy of that new heavens and new earth where only righteousness dwells, 2Pe 3:10-13.

Coronavirus and Scripture, Part I of III

I am afraid it is a fact of life that this world is under a curse.

It all began when our ancestors rejected the
Instructions of the Lord our God.

When that happened God told our ancestors directly that,

“… cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.”
Gen 3:17

Not all of the environmental problems we have are because of trash or plastic bags or oil on the ground or in the water. Our sins bring a curse on both our work and on our environment.

Now God can either help us or oppose us,
and He often does.

The prophet Jeremiah spoke of how God often deals with nations.

“7 At what instant I shall speak concerning A nation, and concerning A kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; 8 if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. 9 At what instant I shall speak concerning A nation, and concerning A kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.”
Jer 18:7-10

God is the one who gives us prosperity or discipline. We may think our work gives us what is good, but God says,

“17 and lest you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. 18 But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.”
Deut 8:17-18

He can send people to oppose us, or can give us peace with other men.

When a man’s ways please Yahweh,
He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Prov 16:7

God Himself disciplines the nations

Sometimes we may think God doesn’t even know what we are doing, but the Bible says something different in Psalm 94.

“8 Consider, you senseless among the people;
You fools, when will you be wise?
9 He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear?
He who formed the eye, won’t he see?
10 He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish?
He who teaches man knows.
11 Yahweh knows the thoughts of man,
That they are futile.
12 Blessed is the man whom you discipline, Yah,
And teach out of your law;
13 That you may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked.”
Psa 94:8-13

We live in a world in which things have gone wrong,
WE have gone wrong.

So now things can go wrong against us! Including things like viruses.

“From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,
Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense;
Thy true religion in our hearts increase,
Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

“Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way,
lead us from night, to never ending day;
Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,
And glory laud and praise be ever Thine.”

From our National Hymn, “God of Our Fathers.”

Romans 8 speaks of that principle of Physics
called “entropy,” or the Second Law
of Thermodynamics.

It calls it vanity, and our “bondage to decay,” and does say that one day,

“that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.”
Rom 8:21

It hasn’t happened yet, but it will ! Jesus offers it through His gospel. Despite Covid-19

Keys to Prophecy: The Kingdom will come!

Even now the kingdom exists and Jesus has ALL authority, Mtt 28:18. Even now He rules over all of the kings of the earth, Rev 1:5, and if they do not serve His purposes, He may shatter them, Psa 2:9; or He may destroy in their way, Psa 2:12.

Just the same, there are future aspects to the
kingdom which are yet unseen.

Mankind has yet to see the kingdom in its fulness. So near the end of his life, Paul says,

“And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me for his heavenly kingdom; to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
2Tim 4:18 WEB

There is a future sense to this kingdom which is yet unseen, and Paul expects to be there. These things are to happen when Jesus comes again.

“20 and that he may send Christ Jesus, who was ordained for you before, 21 whom heaven must receive UNTIL the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets.”
Acts 3:20-21 WEB

So there are times of restoration which are yet to come. It is also called “times of refreshing.

“Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,”
Acts 3:19 WEB

When does this restoration, this renewal happen. At the Second Coming of Christ, as seen above in Acts 3:21.

Then this present universe will pass away.

“… ”the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”
2Pe 3:10 WEB

Then a new universe will come, a new universe where sin and death and entropy (things run down!) are no longer operating principles. So Peter notes,

This universe will pass away, and a new universe not subject to death and decay will be created.

“But, according to his promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness.”
2Pe 3:13 WEB

So also it says in Revelation that the apostle John says,

“I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth have passed away, and the sea is no more.”
Rev 21:1 WEB

“He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” He said, “Write, for these words of God are faithful and true.””
Rev 21:5 WEB

It is called “heaven,” or a new heavens and a new earth. It is called the heavenly kingdom. It will be an everlasting rule.

“Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end …”
Isa 9:7 WEB

At that time, Jesus will say to
one Christian,

““‘Well done, you good servant! Because you were found faithful with very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’”
Lk 19:17 WEB

And to another, “‘And you are to be over five cities.’” Lk 19:15. There will be cities there. This will be a real place. These things have not happened yet, but they will.

Talking About Heaven, Part III of III

Most of us want to have a body. Our decaying human body in this world is compared to a tent.

“For indeed we who are in this tent do groan, being burdened; not that we desire to be unclothed, but that we desire to be clothed, that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.”y
2Cor 5:4 WEB

At times we may be dismayed by our malfunctioning of bodies in this life, but we would not be without a body. The movie pictures of us in heaven as being bodiless spirits drifting here and there are not very satisfying. These bodiless pictures of heaven are from the occult, NOT from Scripture.

When we die,

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. ”
Eccl 12:7 WEB

But Job says he will see his Redeemer
in his flesh!

“26 After my skin is destroyed,
Then in my flesh shall I see God,
27 Whom I, even I, shall see on my side.
My eyes shall see, and not as a stranger. …”
Job 19:26-27 WEB

We will have a body.

“38 But God gives it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own. 39 All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one flesh of men, another flesh of animals, another of fish, and another of birds. 40 There are also celestial bodies, and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial differs from that of the terrestrial.”
1Cor 15:38-40 WEB

“42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.”
1Cor 15:42-43 WEB

“51 Behold, I tell you a mystery. We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”
1Cor 15:51-53 WEB

Scripture tells us our body will be like Jesus body, 1Jn 3:2. But we will have a body.

“But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead

“dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
Rom 8:11 WEB

It will be a building as compared to our present
body as a tent.

“For we know that if the earthly house of our tent is dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.”
2Cor 5:1 WEB

It will not rundown or decay. It will not hurt or malfunction.

You wouldn’t want to miss it for the world!

Talking About Heaven, Part II of III

As has been discussed, a world dominated by sin and death is falling apart. In physics it is called the Second Law of Thermodynamics, that is to say, things run down, things decay, and fall apart

We are made so that we need rest.

In rest and in sleep, we can repair some of the loss. Even so our ability to repair loss and ruin and decay is limited. If you stick your finger in a fan and knock some of the skin off of your finger, then your body can over time repair that loss of skin, and restore your finger to like new. However, if that fan actually cuts off part of your finger … well … you will never be able to grow back that finger. We do not have that sort of regenerative capability.

And even our senses run down.

In a world dominated by sin and death that is often a good thing. This means if we are surrounded by death and stinking decay, we may at first accurately sense the stink and the filth. It is nauseating, and we can hardly stand it. But if we are forced to stay around the stink, then after a little while our sense of the stinking decay tends to run down. After a little while, it does not bother us quite so bad. In a world dominated by sin and death that can be a good thing, within limits.

It is the same for many of our very stupid mistakes and slip-ups. At first the shame of how dumb we have been is overwhelming. But fortunately that sense of being so shamefully stupid wears off. Thank God! Imagine how bad it would be if we fully and accurately felt that shame and embarrassment forever! That would be hard to bear. So it is in part a good thing that our senses also run down.

Part of the other side of that of course is when we are trying to fully enjoy something that is good or beautiful. Almost all of us have had times when we came across a song or a piece of music that was so beautiful that we could not get enough of it. We played it, we listened to it over and over and over and seemingly could not get enough of it. Even at our best though, after a while our senses run down, and we can no longer enjoy that music as we once did.

In heaven, in the new universe NOT dominated by
sin and death and decay,

we will be able to perfectly enjoy good things forever. We will be purified from all wickedness and decay forever.

And since things will not run down in this
new universe without sin and death,

we will not need and rest.

“but those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isa 40:28-31 WEB

Talking About Heaven, Part I of III

This present universe is under a curse!

It is because of sin, because of rebellion, against the Lord our God in our present universe. It appears that this rebellion started before before man was created, but it is not clear how long before man was created.

Even matter is temporary.

Now we come to a fundamental law of our universe. The actual “laws” of science are few and far between. Even so, some of what we sometimes call “laws” are only rules that only work within some pretty narrow limits, that is to say they are not really “laws.” But one of the fundamental laws of our universe is what is sometimes called “The Second law of Thermodynamics.” It is also called “Entropy,” or to state it another way: Things run down. In our universe things to go from order to disorder, and the amount of energy available to do any work is steadily diminishing.

One of the astonishing things which came out of the early nuclear work of Madam Curie and others is that sometimes even matter itself disintegrates The atoms themselves are unstable, they disintegrate.. The most unstable of our elements are called “radioactive,” and they steadily loose small particles as they disintegrate to other forms of matter.

Take your room, your house, or your
car or lawnmower.

You do not have to do something to them for them to disintegrate, for them to rundown, for them to slide into disorder and ruin. Just leaven them alone and they will do that on their own. Entropy, things run down.

Even our bodies, even when starting out correctly, over time disintegrate.

The sun, it turns out is a giant hydrogen bomb.

Now how fast does a hydrogen bomb convert matter into energy? I do not know how to express that mathematically, but it is very fast. Realizing that the Sun is such a giant bomb, it would be natural to expect that it is shrinking, and very fast, and it is!

The British Greenwich Observatory and the U. S. Naval Observatory did a 90 year study of the Sun’s diameter, and the result of that study is that the Sun is shrinking at an astonishing six feet per hour! (Eddy and Boornazian, 1979. “Secular decrease in the solar diameter, 1863-1953.” Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society, 11:437.)

But if the earth was 4 or 5 billion years old, it would mean that the earth would have been inside the sun. We are about 93 million miles from the sun. Run the figures for yourself. This and much other evidence points to a relatively young solar system, and a young earth.

Scripture calls the Second Law of Thermodynamics
the law of sin and death.

And one day, a new universe, called “a new heavens and a new earth,” Isa 65:17, 2Pe 3:13, etc., will be created, which will not be subject to this law.

“that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.”
Rom 8:21 WEB

That will indeed be heaven.

The World in Prophecy: This World will Pass Away

Entropy, described in the previous post on “The World in Prophecy: Ruined by Rebellion,” assures that this will finally happen.

Peter says it will happen this way

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”
2Pe 3:10 WEB

Man’s situation will be in the end intolerable, and Jesus will intervene.

“7 … when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 giving vengeance to those who don’t know God, and to those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus,”
2Thes 1:7-9

Isaiah gives us more details

No one will be able to escape, unless God is with him.

“17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are on you, O inhabitant of the earth. 18 It shall happen, that he who flees from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he who comes up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble.”
Isa 24:17-18

The earth will be moved out of its place, and torn apart in this final phase of the universe passing away.

“19 The earth is utterly broken, the earth is torn apart, the earth is shaken violently. 20 The earth shall stagger like a drunken man, and shall sway back and forth like a hammock; and the disobedience of it shall be heavy on it, and it shall fall, AND NOT RISE AGAIN
Isa 24:19-20 WEB (emphasis added)

Psalms prophetically tells us this universe will be
put away like an old coat

“25 Of old, you laid the foundation of the earth.
The heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you will endure.
Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment.
You will change them like a cloak, and they will be changed.”
Psa 102:25-26 WEB

“Wear out like a garment.” Yes, entropy. Then the new will come. This of course is also quoted in Hebrews 1.

The prisoners will gathered together

“21 It shall happen in that day, that Yahweh will punish the host of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth on the earth. 22 They shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited.”
Isa 24:21-22 WEB

Jesus tells us that,

“31 “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ”

The World in Prophecy: Ruined by Rebellion

There are many things which are beautiful and nice about our present world. Even so most of us are soon aware that something is wrong, or more than one thing is seriously wrong in this present world.

It hasn’t always been like this

In a way we even sense this inside us. Man was once in a perfect place, and had a perfect job, tending a beautiful and bountiful garden. Our ancestor’s rebellion against God’s instructions changed all of this, so,

“17 … cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.”
Gen 3:17-18 WEB

And that was just the beginning.

Sin ruins things

Sometimes things can go back and forth because of our stubbornness or repentance.

“33 He turns rivers into a desert,
Water springs into a thirsty ground,
34 And a fruitful land into a salt waste,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
35 He turns a desert into a pool of water,
And a dry land into water springs.
36 There he makes the hungry live,
That they may prepare a city to live in
,
37 Sow fields, plant vineyards,
And reap the fruits of increase.
38 He blesses them also, so that they are multiplied greatly.
He doesn’t allow their cattle to decrease.”
Psa 107:33-38 WEB

It is sin that pollutes our world

“4 The earth mourns and fades away, the world languishes and fades away, the lofty people of the earth do languish. 5 The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants of it; because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. 6 Therefore has the curse devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.”
Isa 24:4-6 WEB

God looks for and tries to encourage repentance

“8 if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. 9 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 10 if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.”
Jer 18:8-10 WEB

In Physics these laws of decay are called “entropy.”

Entropy in everyday terms means that things run down, decay, fall apart. In Rom 8:20 Paul says that the world was subjected to this frustration, this futility, this vanity/emptiness, by God’s decision. But He says that one day

“that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.”
Rom 8:21 WEB

Entropy is not an eternal law, but a temporary dilemma of our present universe because of sin. We have become a part of a cosmic rebellion.
