Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 15 of 15

And the grand Exodus occurs … from this world itself!

The beast is able force the entire world to worship him as god, except for a few Christians. Evidently many Christians also worship the beast. Many also are killed or imprisoned. But also there is

Once more in the wilderness, just like ancient Israel!

Many Christians also seek refuge from the beast by fleeing into the wilderness!

“The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days.”
Rev 12:6

So many are protected in the wilderness during the entire reign of the beast, in “a place prepared by God,” Rev 12:6; and away “from the face of the serpent,” Rev 12:14.

It is true that they try to pursue them in the wilderness, and it is daunting to think of such pursuit thinking of modern imaging techniques. But it says,

“15 The serpent spewed water out of his mouth after the woman like a river, that he might cause her to be carried away by the stream. 16 The earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the river which the dragon spewed out of his mouth.”
Rev 12:15-16

So even the earth will help the righteous in those terrible last days.

It will be terrible times on ALL men, not just Christians. Even Jesus, though, asks,

“… Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
Lk 18:8

Then will come the greatest Exodus of all time.

There will all sort of signs on the earth and in the heavens. Notice carefully, we will NOT know the day or the hour, but we will know when it is near.

“But you, brothers, aren’t in darkness, that the day should overtake you like a thief.”
1Thes 5:4

Jesus says,

“25 There WILL be SIGNS in the sun, moon, and stars; and on the earth anxiety of nations, in perplexity for the roaring of the sea and the waves; 26 men fainting for fear, and for expectation of the things which are coming on the world: for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”
Lk 21:25-26

Again Jesus says,

“But when these things begin to happen, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is near.”
Lk 21:28

That is clearly not written of the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem. That did NOT bring redemption near for either Jews, or gentiles, or Christians. It only fits the end of this universe.

And finally to heaven itself … the true promised land.

This will be when God’s faithful of all ages are raised from the dead, in sight of all of their enemies. The angels will gather God’s

“… chosen ones from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Mtt 24:31 KJV

“17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever.”
1Thes 4:17

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 14 of 15

By Mighty acts of Judgment God delivers His people

When God’s people in the Old Testament were totally under the power of Pharaoh, and needed deliverance from the power of the Egypt of this world, so that they might have their own land in the promised land of Canaan, God led them to freedom by mighty acts of judgment on an evil ruler, the Pharaoh of Egypt and his people.

When in the New Testament God’s people will be totally under the power of the beast, and need deliverance so that they might have their own land in the promised land of Heaven, God will lead them to freedom by mighty acts of judgment on an evil ruler, the beast of this world and those who worship him.

This is for a relatively short period of time.

Satan is allowed to reign only for the short time a of time of 3-1/2 years, which called 1260 days (Rev 11:3), 42 months (Rev 11:2, 13:5), and “time, times, and half a time,” (Dan 7:25, 12:7, Rev 12:14). It does say that the beast “overcomes” the church, the saints. Daniel is told that this will last,

“… for a time, times, and a half; and when they have made an end of breaking in pieces the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
Dan 12:7

Further it should be noted that Daniel deals with both the final events, and also with ancient kings who are symbolic of the final events. So how is the release of God’s people to be accomplished?

God will respond with might acts of judgment on
the kingdom of the beast and his followers

Always remember that the book of Revelation is a series of parallel, overlapping, cumulative visions. Putting them end to end, makes no more sense than putting the parables of the kingdom in the Gospels end to end.

These mighty acts of judgement are mentioned Revelation 11 with the testimony of the two witnesses. More is in chapters 15 and 16 when it talks about the seven last bowls of wrath, the last plagues which will be poured out on the earth. It mentions specifically,

“The fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was darkened. They gnawed their tongues because of the pain,”
Rev 16:10

The plagues that fall toward the end, are remarkably similar to the plagues
that fell on Egypt in the book of Exodus!

In Rev 16:2 it mentions “a harmful and evil sore on the people who had the mark of the beast, and who worshiped his image.” In Rev 16:3-4 “the sea become blood,” and the rivers and springs of water became blood. All of which seems to be described from a different point of view in Rev 8:8-9. These things are specifically mentioned as punishment for spilling the blood of Christians, Rev 16:5. The world is also scorched with heat from the sun. And Rev 9:3-11 seems to speaks a plague of locusts, which seem to spiritual locusts, to afflict only those who do not have the seal of God.

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 13 of 15

And the “god of this world” 2Cor 4:4, overcomes the church.

This is actually a subject of several prophesies, but the one that catches the eye of many is in Revelation 13. The passage in Revelation 13 is obviously parallel to 2Thessalonians 2, that is the say that the “beast” is the “man of sin,” (or “of lawlessness,” depending on your translation). Both are worshipped by the entire world, all of the lost. Both are destroyed by Jesus Second Coming (2Thes 2:8, Rev 19:20). The man of lawlessness / sin is produced by the “mystery of lawlessness, which is already at work in the first century of our era, 2Thes 2:7. In Rev 13:1-2 the organization which produces the beast is called “a beast,” and it has seven heads (men who direct the organization), and ten horns / crowns, rulers who are part of the beast organization. So ten national rulers are part o the “beast” organization, which evidently is existing from at least the first century of our age.

Then one of the seven heads of the organization has a fatal wound and that fatal wound is healed, Rev 13:3. The whole world is fascinated by this one who is killed, yet has some sort of recovery. This head, one of the seven heads of the beast organization, then becomes “the beast,” Rev 13:3.

The beast” is allowed to make war for forty-two months, or 3-1/2 years, Rev 13:5. This period of time is also referred to by the prophet Daniel. This beast blasphemes God and claims he is the one and only God, Rev 13:6 and 2Thes 2:4. This beast is given great temporary authority.

“It was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. Authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation was given to him.”
Rev 13:7

No man has had authority over “every … nation” up till now. And no one has overcome the church world wide up to now. So this has NOT happened yet!

Everyone, whose name has not been written in the book of life since the foundation of the world, will worship this beast , Rev 13:8, Rev 17:8. This means that everyone will worship this beast who is not a faithful Christian.

Notice carefully, the beast has AUTHORITY to BOTH make WAR with the saints (all true Christians), AND to CONQUER them!

We are talking about a situation where the saints (those sanctified, cleansed by the blood of Jesus) are completely overwhelmed, and that is plainly stated by the text. The word used in Rev 13:7 for the church being “overcome” is the Greek word nikao and it means to overcome, overpower, conquer, prevail, have the victory over. Nike the Greek “goddess” of victory derives her name from this word, and it a regular word for conquering a foe in battle.

So here is a situation very similar to when God’s people were
under the power of Pharaoh in Egypt.

They will be totally under the power of “the god of this world,” 2Cor 4:4. They will need rescue from power of this evil one.

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, Part 12

And the Christian is called out of Egypt

“1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 and all ate the same spiritual food; 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.”
1Cor 10:1-4

In such symbolism then Pharaoh represents the god of this world, this age, 2Cor 4:4. He has indeed held in us bondage. Christ came and took part of flesh and blood,

“14 … that through death he might bring to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might deliver all of them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
Heb 2:14-15

The fear of death has kept us in line with “those who by nature are not gods.” Gal 4:8. Egypt represents the world system which is so corrupt.

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”
1Jn 5:19

“… If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.”
1Jn 2:15

Baptism is our separation from this world.

“3 Or don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism to death, that just like Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.”
Rom 6:3-4

“7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him;”
Rom 6:7-8

We do our own wandering in a wilderness in the Christian life.

Just as ancient Israel did, we often lose our bearing when things do not go as expected. As they often fell apart and blamed God, and reject their faithful leaders in the Lord, so do we very often when things seem to go wrong, when it seems things are beyond even God’s control. Of course things never are beyond God’s control.

It would be a blessing to enter the promised land early.

It would have been a blessing if Israel had been willing to enter Canaan when they were first instructed. But ancient Israel was intimidated by their worldly adversaries, as we also often are, and then fell into sin, as we frequently do.

Sometimes, like ancient Israel, we may just wander around
in our desolate places until we perish.

We were delivered from Egypt, but loved our bondage to sin so much we perished in it, after being delivered to where we could live. Israel’s sins are warnings to us.

It doesn’t have to be that way!

“Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.”
1Cor 10:11

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 7 of 15

Egypt is also a place of magic and enchantments.

Much is told about these things history, and in the monuments of Egypt, and it shows up in Scripture from time to time. When the Pharaoh of the time of Joseph had his troubling dream, he first approached “all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men of it,” Gen 41:8. Such was common in the ancient world.

So when Aaron threw his rod down and it became a snake,

Pharaoh called “his wise men and the sorcerers,” and they did the same with “their enchantments,” Ex 7:11.

Paul compares the magicians of Egypt to
false teachers of the Christian age.

There has always been a certain fascination among some with secret knowledge. Some of this was mere tricks such as is seen with modern stage magicians. Some of this was primitive forms of chemistry and drugs, and indeed the later alchemists of medieval times sort of morphed into what is now modern chemistry. Some of this relied on hypnotizing the audience, with or without drugs, so that people “saw” what was intended.

Finally, some at least pretended that they were relying on supernatural spirits or so called “gods.” This last is the most ambiguous of all. It is true that angels are more powerful than men, 2Pe 2:11. Satan is powerful angel who has gone bad, and we saw in earlier lessons that he is capable of powerful works in nature (Job chapters 1 and 2), and that he can put ideas into men’s heads, as we can also see in Job 1 and 2, and also in our own lives. He is called “the devil and his angels,” Mtt 25:41. Further, these angels turned bad are also called demons, and “principalities” and “powers” and “the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age,” Eph 6:12, and that is what we as human beings are fighting against. Moreover when we worship other “gods” we are actually worshiping demons, Deut 32:17, 1Cor 10:19-20.

Two of the Egyptian magicians are named by Paul in 2Tim 3:8, Jannes and Jambres, and they are viewed as men who know that their own claims were fraudulent, but were still opposing Moses. Modern false teachers are said to be like these men.

“Even as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so do these also oppose the truth; men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith.”
2Tim 2:8

These are things we should avoid.

It is not a matter of whether these things sometimes may seem to “work.” Sorcery/witchcraft is one of the works of the flesh in Gal 5:20.

“There shall not be found with you anyone … who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, 11 or a charmer, … or a wizard, or a necromancer.”
Deut 18:10-11

Spectacular signs will be given by Satan before the
final Exodus out of this world.

The man of lawlessness/the beast,

“even he whose coming is according to the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,”
2Thes 2:9

These signs will almost be enough to fool the chosen of God, Mtt 24:24.

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 4 of 15

Satan can do his own signs … up to a point.

Satan did some powerful works in Job 1. By God’s permission Satan is is able to hurt Job and all he has. He is able to stir up the Sabeans to make a raid and capture Job’s oxen and donkeys, and kill the men tending them. Then Satan was able to make fire fall from heaven and burn up seven thousand sheep and their herdsmen! Also Satan stirred up the Chaldeans to make a raid on Job’s camels, and take them all, and kill the men tending them. Then he made a strong straight line wind come across the plains of Mesopotamia, and hit the house where Job’s sons and daughters were having a get-together, and knock the house down, and kill all of his children. All in one day. All by God’s permission.

Still Satan has his limitations, He has great influence over many, perhaps even us. Even so, just like you and I, he can only do what God allows him to do!

And Pharaoh could do his own signs … up to a point.

In Exodus 7 Moses and Aaron appeared before Pharaoh and Pharaoh asked them to perform a sign from God. First Aaron threw he rod on the floor and it turned into a snake. Then Pharaoh called for his magicians and sorcerers, and they did the same “with their enchantments,” Ex 7:11-12. But then Aaron’s rod swallowed up the rods of the magicians. But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and he would not listen to the words of God through Moses and Aaron.

Again by God’s command, Moses and Aaron met Pharaoh in the morning as he went out by the Nile River. They told, “Let my people go, that they might serve me …” Then Moses and Aaron struck the waters of the Nile so that they turned to blood, and the fish died, and the water became undrinkable, Ex 7:14-21. Then the magicians did the same with their enchantments. So Pharaoh would not listen.

One day another great champion of evil will oppose God.

Revealing the Christian Age discuses asteroid size bodies hitting our earth, “something like a great burning mountain.” Rev 8:8-9

Someone called “the beast” is given, “Authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation,” Further, he is given to “make war with the saints, and to overcome them,” Rev 13:7. This beast is opposed by “two witnesses” in Revelation 11, who “have power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain” and over the waters “to turn them into blood,” Rev 11:6. These two witnesses sound a little like Moses and Aaron, and little like Elijah.

How is this to be? A parallel vision in Revelation 8 says,

“The second angel sounded, and something like a great burning mountain was thrown into the sea. One third of the sea became blood, 9 and one third of the living creatures which were in the sea died. One third of the ships were destroyed.”
Rev 8:8-9

There is more than one reference to waters turning to blood and becoming undrinkable in those final conflicts.

The contest between Moses and Pharaoh is evidently
symbolic also of this final contest in history.

Prophecy Practice: Out of Egypt, 3 of 15

Pharaoh of old represents the god of this age,
Satan’s rule over US!

Moses after more objections finally headed toward Egypt with his brother Aaron as his spokesman. They were able to present their case before Pharaoh.

Pharaoh did NOT want to release Israel, but to grind them down in oppression.

“Who is Yahweh that I should listen to his voice,” Ex 5:2. He told them to “Get back to your burdens!” Ex 5:4. He figured they had too much time on their hands, so he increased their work load.

“The officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in trouble …”
Ex 5:19

The people began to blame Moses, and Moses was close to unhinged, and pleaded and asked the Lord why He had cause this. Moses was sure Pharaoh would never listen to him, especially now. God responds,

“I am Yahweh. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.”
Ex 6:29

Further, God confirms that Pharaoh will NOT listen you. God in fact says that He will harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will NOT listen. God says.

“… I will lay my hand on Egypt, and bring forth my hosts, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.”
Ex 7:4

God says that in the end, the Egyptians will know that “I am Yahweh,” and assures Moses that the people of God will be released, Ex 7:5

So Jesus came with powerful works of God

As Moses came to release Israel from slavery, Jesus came to release us all, Jew and gentile.

Since then the children have shared in flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner partook of the same, that through death he might bring to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,”
Heb 2:14

Satan also does NOT want to release us.

The false teachers of our age all promise us liberty in sin.

“promising them liberty, while they themselves are bondservants of corruption; for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he also brought into bondage.”
2Pe 2:19

However, instead of liberty, sin results in enslavement to those evil habits which we detest in ourselves. Here is my own literal translation.

“Don’t you know that to whom you present yourselves as slaves to obedience, his slaves you are whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?”
Rom 6:16 nf

Soon, what we thought we could just play with, is indeed our master. Then our very wrongs become part of the blinding power of Satan, the god of this age.

“in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.”
2Cor 4:4

It is only by powerful acts of God that we are delivered from sin and death. These began with Jesus works before men, and climaxed in His resurrection from the dead.

Once More, Maybe Twice, in the Wilderness? Part 3 of 3

There is definitely one more time for God’s people
in the wilderness.

There is a time, near the end of this universe, when an evil man is allowed control of this whole world for a short period of time. He is called “the man of lawlessness” in 2Thessalonian chapter 2, and is “the beast” in the book of Revelation. He only rules for a very short period of time.

“5 A mouth speaking great things and blasphemy was given to him. Authority to make war for forty-two months was given to him. … 7 It was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them. Authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation was given to him.”
Rev 13:5, 7

So this false god/man has authority over ALL the earth, for a period that is variously described as 42 months, or 1,260 days, or “time, times, and half a time” (which is a Hebraism for 3-1/2 years).

All who dwell on the earth will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who has been killed.”
Rev 13:8

NO ONE has had such power world-wide YET!

But the true believers in God will be given
protection … in “the wilderness.”

The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days.”
Rev. 12:6

“Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”
Rev 12:14

So the church one more time will be nourished in the wilderness, just before they enter the ultimate promised land, heaven itself.

And there may be another time in the wilderness,
before that!

There is also yet to come a season of world-wide stress on all Jews, that results in their turning to Jesus of Nazareth in faith. This is spoken of in previous posts about “The Jews Coming to Rabbi Jesus of Nazareth.” In that time of great stress on BOTH Jews and Christians, one-third of all Jews world-wide, will be killed, Zech 13:8. (See previous posts on this subject.)

But also Scripture seems to imply that many Jews that escape this time of great stress, will do so in the wilderness. God says of the Jews,

“Therefore, behold, I will allure her,
And bring her into the wilderness,
And speak tenderly to her.”
Hos 2:14

It does seems to be speaking of the Jews here, and not of the later church of both Jews and gentiles. And Jeremiah more specifically tells us,

“Thus says Yahweh, The people who were left of the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.”
Jer 31:2

If you look at Jer 31:1, it is specifically about when the Jews come into the New Covenant in Jesus Christ.

A Yet to Come Gospel Triumph, Part 1 of 3

Satan has thrown a hood of darkness over sinful men.

The apostle John is adamant about this control.

“We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”
1Jn 5:19

I remember being stunned by the comprehensiveness of this statement, even as a young man who had turned to the gospel, and who thought he knew how bad the world really was. The “whole world” is in the power of Satan? I thought surely this couldn’t mean the whole world, but that is what it truly said. Further, other verses say in essence the same thing.

“in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should not dawn on them.”
2Cor 4:4

Many verses indeed indicate we are in the power of Satan until we came to Christ.

“One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”
Jn 3:36

The wrath of God was on him because of his sins before coming to Christ, and if he truly doesn’t believe / obey the Son? The Greek word is apeitheo and it describes someone who is not fully persuaded of Christ, and who thus will not fully obey Christ. That person? The wrath of God was on him, and now not fully persuaded … then the wrath of God remains on him. It was there before he started to turn, and remains there when he fails to turn.

He remains as he was at first, as we ALL were at first.

“However at that time, not knowing God, YOU were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.”
Gal 4:8

We have ALL been there.

But big changes are yet to come in human history

The changes are beginning with the coming of the gospel so “we are of God,” and it is all the rest are under Satan’s spells, 1Jn 5:19. It is before the Second Coming of Christ. That final conflict is described in many Scriptures throughout the Bible and in many parallel passages in the book of Revelation. Remember, Revelation is a series of overlapping visions which cover the entire Christian age. Also it is in Rev 20:7-10.

But BEFORE that final conflict …

There is a period which has not happened yet, when Satan is bound for an extended period of time, so that Satan,

should deceive the nations no more, until the thousand years were finished. After this, he must be freed for a short time.”
Rev 20:3

There is yet to come in human history, a period when,

“… the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh, as the waters cover the sea. ”
Hab 2:14

In Habakkuk 2 and similar passages it seems to be in the context of this present world that there would be a time the knowledge of God will cover this entire earth.

Keys to Prophecy: A Satanic Solution to Political Division

Not everyone agrees with this world-wide division of powers and authorities. Yes, this prevents evil men from having a monopoly of power here on earth, and often pits evil men against evil men in their quests for unrestricted power. Sometimes these battles are truly terrifying. David comments,

“Yahweh brings the counsel of the nations to nothing.
He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.”
Psa 33:10

By such means God continually restricts the reach and grasp of evil men. Satan though intends to offer the ultimate solution to the divisions of worldly powers.

Satan intends to offer a substitute “god,” another
“god”/man whom ALL have to worship.

If ALL men HAD TO worship just ONE MAN, that would provide the foundation for unifying all of ideas under that ONE MAN. (See the post on “Religious Ideas are the Foundation of ALL Politics.) That would provide a sure framework to end all of the diversity in religion, and that is the root of our political diversity. It would provide a basis for world-wide unity. Paul says of this “god”/man,

“he who opposes and exalts himself against all that is called God or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself up as God.”
2Thes 2:4

He is called “the beast” in Revelation. He is talked about under several names and phrases in both the Old and the New Testaments. The “mystery of lawlessness” occult (hidden) religion that will eventually produce this world ruler, “already works” in the first century, 2Thes 2:7. God will at the last allow him a short reign of three and a half years (for a time, and times, and half a time).

“… Authority to make war for forty-two months was given to him. ”
Rev 13:5

Many think of this as hard times for the church

And it will be. However God will once more provide for His faithful ones in “the wilderness.” You might think of this as the second (and final) exodus out of this world.

“Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”
Rev 12.10

Even so, this is also times of extreme stress
for the entire world.

This man will come with powerful Satanic signs and wonders (2Thes 2:9), including some sort of his being raised from the dead.

“One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally. His fatal wound was healed, and the whole earth marveled at the beast.”
Rev 13:3

No one will be able to buy or sell or trade anything unless they accept this man as “god.” And if you worship him, you will perish forever, Rev 13:8, 17.

This is not some sort of premillenial invention. This is Scripture and it clearly has NOT happened yet. All but a few faithful will worship him, very near the end of the age.
